A truly wonderful book!
As a former resident of the Bay Area, this book defently takes me back there. The pictures are just wonderful. Bob Cameron included almost every city in the Bay Area. I highly reccomend Above San Francisco to anyone who love great cities and great photography.

Fantastic Series. This Is One Of His Best.
A new look at San Francisco. Mr Cameron always manages to find new ways of looking at familiar objects. With Herb Caen's writing, this is one of his best books.

Cameron is the best! All his books are great bargains
This the first of at least 12 of Cameron's "Above" books. He has set the standard for any aerial photography/coffee table books. With each new edition he finds interesting, stunningly beautiful shots-each one worthy of the "Above San Francisco" calendars he also publishes. Almost Famous
Published in Paperback by Farrar Straus & Giroux (November, 2000)
Author: Cameron Crowe
Average review score:

Almost...
As good as the movie. Well, okay, better. (Isn't the book always better?) This includes details the movie left out and tells the story just as well. Also includes interviews with Cameron Crowe. EXCELLENT Book.

Wanna pretend you're in the film and memorize the script?
Then this is the book you have to get! I loved the film, ALMOST FAMOUS (so much, that I went to go see it at the movie theaters towards the end of it's playing by myself - usually, I go to the movies with at least one other person). ALMOST FAMOUS is really the best film I've ever seen in my life. I can't believe it only won one Academy Award and didn't get nominated for Best Picture! Oh well, if you wanna see the exact Oscar-winning script from the film than this is the best thing you can get. I went out to the bookstore recently and bought this and I was not disappointed in the least! I loved every moment of it. In fact, I am trying to memorize the script so when I buy the video, I can repeat every single word they say in the film. This script captures all of the highlight moments from the film and if you missed a line or two while watching the movie, you can probably find it here in this book. Also, the intro written by the author is pretty cool, too. Also, the author has an interview with Cameron Crowe himself, and Crowe explains many parts of the film that were most confusing to you. Plus, there are some great memorable photos directly from the shooting of the movie (though they are all in black and white) to add to this true ALMOST FAMOUS collectors' item. A great read and a must have for all ALMOST FAMOUS fans! Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

It was right on with the movie
After seeing the movie I couldn't wait for the book to come out. I got it the first day of November and read it in like one day. I am now reading it again and picking up more then I did before, not because I read to fast but because you just do. If you are a fan of the movie and want a little behind the story look then get this screenplay (book).

And There Was Light
Published in Paperback by Parabola Books (March, 1988)
Authors: Jacques Lusseyran, D. M. Dooling, and Elizabeth R. Cameron
Average review score:

"And There Was Light" is abundently superb.
Startling in its intelligence, moral power, and sheer beauty, this text is a treasure for both the seasoned wise and the passionate young. Lusseyran was a man of rare talent and courage; his untimely death in 1971 saw the loss of one of Earth's freest and wisest souls. May our children and our children's children have the privilege of reading his remarkable story.

One of the books I hope always to keep.
This book was recommended to me in 1970 by Marshall McLuhan. He was greatly impressed by this book, as was I. Lusseyran's experience with the human voice was particularly intriguing. I tried to contact him at the university, but he had left. Does anyone know what happened to him?

This book radiates with the luminosity of deep inner joy
Upon becoming blind at 8 years of age, Jacques Lusseyran discovered a deep inner joy that henceforth illuminated his entire life and never left him, not even in the horror and despair of Buchenwald. He was a daring, courageous French Resistance fighter who taught people not just to see but also to experience that life beyond all life and that joy that surpasses all human understanding. Even the evil of Nazism sweeping throughout France could not dim this ever-shining light. Jacques lived life to the fullest every moment of his waking hours with an enthusiasm that is astonishing, energizing, and almost unbelievable. To read this book is discover anew that light which the darkness has never been able to extinguish.

Cancer and Vitamin C: A Discussion of the Nature, Causes, Prevention and Treatment of Cancer With Special Reference to the Value of Vitamin C
Published in Hardcover by W.W. Norton & Company (December, 1979)
Authors: Ewan Cameron and Linus Pauling
Average review score:

Finally a scientific book that leaves no rebuttals about C!
This book is excellent. It is one of the few "layman's" books out there that actually present referenced scientific research for the public to truly understand. And the research involves an extremely important health aspect---why millions of people around the world are dying from cancer every year, and why most of them do not have to die if they take several grams of Vitamin C daily. Personally I recommend calcium ascorbate, because it's buffered, and it won't upset a person's stomach. I have taken the liberty of referencing a few sentences of Pauling and Cameron's work in the Cancer chapter of my book "The Failures of American Medicine"...

Significant increases in life expectancy with vitamin C
Cameron and Pauling treated a large series of terminally ill cancer patients with massive doses of vitamin C. They saw significant increases in the life expectancy of these patients, including some complete remissions.

They gave a later group of terminally ill patients a broad spectrum of other vitamins and minerals with their vitamin C. These patients had even larger increases in life expectancy. Results were best with cancers of the reproductive system.

A Japanese study agrees with Cameron and Pauling but a Mayo Clinic study does not.

cancer and vitamin c
this is the book that explain not only the conection and the actions of vitamin c on cancer, but also explain the use of the chemotherapy and radiotherapy in the kinds of cancers that it is necessary, and in what kinds it is not.in all over the book there are many case histories that are covered and the explanations on how vitamin c is realy woking on all types of cancers, and why.the expirience of both,( the grate late two times nobel price winner:linus pauling), and the scotish-oncologist: ewan cameron, that in 10 years of therapy of thousands of patients make that book possible to be published.this is linus pauling's last book before he died in 8.19.1994 .in short and in general, it is realy a great book of a combination of a chemist, and an oncologist.i am recommended very much to every one.

Authors: Cameron Carothers, Junior League of Pasadena, Stacey Russakow, and Junior League of Pasadena Inc.

More Than A Cookbook
I couldn't wait to dive into the Junior League of Pasadena's Dining by Design cookbook. In addition to delicious and easy sounding recipes, it is full of all kinds of interesting nuggets of information. Things that you've always wanted to know but could never put your finger on in other cookbooks. It is also a lovely looking book, almost too pretty to be a cookbook. Try it, I think you'll really, really like it!

Junior League of Pasadena does it again!
As expected, I was not disappointed by the Junior League of Pasadena's newest edition in their series of cookbooks. I didn't think anything could top their last, "California Sizzles", but "Dining by Design" is even better! I have dozens of cookbooks that remain dusty on the shelves, but both my Junior League of Pasadena cookbooks are very well worn from all of the recipes I use. Way to go! I recommend these delicious, easy to understand, easy to prepare recipes to everyone!

Every recipe i have made has been fabulous and easy.
i recommend this book to absolutely everyone. i have yet to have a bad experience with any one of the recipes found in this beautiful book. Not only does the book contain tasty recipes but it contains valuable tips for cooking, decorating, entertaining and the like. this is a must buy for family and friends as well as for yourself. i sure hope the junior league of Pasadena, inc. will publish another:)

The Green Machine.

The Green Machine
This book was my favorite for years as a child. I have yet to find a copy, even the copy I read growing up. Every child should read or have it read to them. Good luck finding it!

The Green Machine
I read this book to our youngest son as often as we could check it out of the library. It is very fun to read and good for interaction with your child. I too am looking for a copy of this book. My son who is graduating this spring has asked about it. Would make a great graduation gift!

The Most Fun Possible With Vegetables & a Green Machine.
I read this book to my kids when they were little, and they thought it was such a gas! The Green Machine is this little car with no visible driver, that tears around a vegetable garden, and all the veggies talk to each other in rhymes about the car. It's silly, it's green, and it was loads of fun. My oldest is off to college this Fall, and he still thinks it was one of the best kids books he remembers reading. We look it out from the local library so many times it got to be pathetic. I would love to have a copy, if anyone ever finds it.

Heart Steps: Prayers and Declarations for a Creative Life
Published in Audio Cassette by Putnam Pub Group (Audio) (September, 1997)
Authors: Julia Cameron and Tim Wheater
Average review score:

peaceful reflections
Like another book that I reviewed by this author (Blessings: Prayers and Declarations for a Heartful Life) this book provides life affirming reflections written by the author. These reflections are religious in nature but are non sectarian, i.e., they are appropriate for all faiths: Christians, Jews, Moslems, etc. When you need spiritual reflections to help you connect with God, this peaceful book fills the bill. When you need thoughts to reaffirm your worth in the scheme of things, this book is for you. I recommend it.

A great tool
I love almost everything Julia Cameron has done. I read something from "Heart Steps" each day when I sit down to write. It invariably helps me feel centered & focused. It's best used in conjunction with some of the other tools Cameron has created, such as "The Artist's Way," the practice of morning pages & perhaps an audio edition of "Heart Steps" &/or "Blessings" in the car. I also love Cameron's brand of sprituality because it neither whacks non-Christians over the head with Christianity nor criticizes Christians--it's ideal for anyone independently seeking their own conception of a Higher Power, including those skeptical about traditional organized religion. Cameron's books & tapes also are ideal for creative people in 12 Step programs. "Heart Steps" is a wonderful little volume that can be savored over months as part of a daily practice.

Very worthwhile
A friend of mine had given me this book as a gift. Now I would gladly give it to all my friends. I have read the affirmations to friends and clients. I think this defintiely worth your time and effort.

Photographing Montana 1894-1928: The Life and Work of Evelyn Cameron
Published in Paperback by Mountain Press Publishing Company (June, 2003)
Author: Donna M. Lucey
Average review score:

A Ticket to Montana
Entirely evocative of the Montana landscape. An excellent gift or coffee table book for Montana natives or Montana-philes. Not only does Evelyn capture the physicality of the place - she captures it's soul - it's very essence.

Gathers photos which portray early Montana life
Evelyn Cameron left her English home to become a rancher in Montana in the late 1800s: she used her photography skills to help support her family, and captured Montana life in the process. Photographing Montana gathers photos which portray early Montana life and deserves a spot in any Montana history collection as well as in art libraries seeking examples of regional photographic talent. Excerpts from her diaries and letters include plenty of autobiographical insights.

Outstanding frontier photography
This is an outstanding book of frontier American photography, as well as an interesting story of the photography, Evelyn Cameron. Cameron was a high-society woman from England who moved to Montana with her husband in the late nineteenth century. Bored with frontier life, she learned photography from a neighbor and then began to photograph the natural beauty on wildlife of Montana. This books succeeds from both the frontier photography and the story of this woman's life.

The Fields of Home (The Little Britches Series)
Published in Unknown Binding by Books in Motion (January, 2001)
Authors: Ralph Moody and Cameron Beierle
Average review score:

An easy book to read. Pleasing and relaxing
I enjoyed this book. Though not a literary classic, it's a great book for a lazy summer afternoon. Written in a very traditional style, you can easily picture the scences being described. The characters are believable, especially if you're familiar with rural life.

More Reality Than One Might Think
Ralph Moody had the knack for "art-for-art's-sake" disguise. One important ingredient of his books that is seldom included in the reviews is the historical reality of the characters. If one was brought up ( as I was ) in Maine, farming with horses - the reality of the narrative is apparent. Reviewers not intimate with this culture and time still use terms such as "believable" in describing this book. The reason for this believability is simple - Moody was writing about real people who actually existed! Tom Gould ( the Grandfather ) was a Civil War Vet - Company I, 16th Maine; he actually did work the farm described in the book; his father, Jacob, actually did clear the farm from the wilderness; Tom actually was born when his father was 72, etc., etc. A boulder in nearby Hillside Cemetery in Lisbon memorializes Jacob, Tom and the farm which is the setting for this book. This is a cultural thumbprint of turn-of-the-century Maine . One might also explore the writings of another of Tom's grandsons ( and Ralph Moody's first cousin ), Maine author, John Gould.

Ralph and his Grandfather
The whole set of Ralph Moody books rank at the very top of read-aloud books with our children. We have read them all several times. This is my favorite. What a powerful story of the contending of wills between an old man and his grandson. You won't forget this story.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Published in Paperback by Overlook Press (25 June, 2002)
Authors: John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask
Average review score:

Show books
Books from a successful Broadway or off-Broadway show are typically pretty silly, or at least pandering about how fabulous it is. This is a decidedly curious marketing tool, since it comes out after the show has lost its steam in New York, before the movie is made, and while the show is sort of on tour.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch was a really fabulous off-Broadway show, though I don't think the script on paper will quite capture the experience and power of it. Still, as it is a most worthwhile production, any marketing tool behind it is assuredly for the bet.

Long Live Hedwig
For some people, the stage production of Hedwig And The Angry Inch was this greally great Off-Broadway musical. For others it taught them a little bit about themselves, about those around them, and about their lives. John Cameron Mitchell's text laces beautifully with Stephen Trask's lyrics to dish out an emotional beat down that hurts so much you love it.

If you haven't seen it, I'll admit, reading the script isn't going to do it for you, but if you've at least heard of it, go out and get yourself the CD and read along between the songs. There's also some incredible photography to look at, many of which haven't been seen before. You get a semi-decent idea of what's going on on stage, anyway. It's quite a show by some extremely talented people. I will never forget Hedwig or her brain parents as long as I live.

At long last!
Well, I guess what I really have to say is, "wow!" I've been listening to the Hedwig soundtrack since it came out, but I never got a chance to see the play, and, consequently, I missed out on a GREAT deal. While this book doesn't replace seeing a show, it does contain the entire script. So now I've caught up and know more exactly what all of those fabulous songs are about!! And what a story . . .

Buy the soundtrack, and if you are at all moved, the next logical step is to buy the book. You will not be disapointed.
